Welcome to 8th Grade English

This year in 8th grade English, we will study reading, writing, and speaking in the hopes of mastering the skills set forth in the California State Standards.

 

Your job will be to come prepared to succeed and build skills that will lead you to success in your future academic pursuits. By studying classic works of literature along side contemporary pieces, you will develop critical thinking skills, which will be assessed using tests, essays, quizzes, and presentations.

 

Together we will work to develop a deeper understanding of the literature we study, learn how to express our new findings, and create a community of learning.

 

I also teach Creative Writing as a one semester elective; this class gives students the opportunity to practice writing: Writing of any sort is hard, but rewarding work – students will gain a great deal of satisfaction from a finished piece. Being creative can also be difficult and challenging at times, but immensely fun.
