Room 12 Homework |
Homework in third grade is on a daily basis. Homework
will be written down in the homework Classroom Connections
calendar book. Everyday, your child will need to bring their classroom reading
book, Classroom Connections calendar book, and any
other worksheets that they have. All of the above items should be kept in your
child’s plastic black homework folder, which we have named, as a class,
"Steve-the-homework -folder." Your child will need their "Just
Right" classroom reading book in class and at home to read, EVERYDAY.
The 5 Ws + 1H about Homework:
What?
-30 minutes of reading EVERY DAY from a (classroom
book) chosen by the teacher.
-Worksheets in math, science or social studies.
-Weekly paragraph writing on given topics.
-Weekly spelling words to study (15 words each week)
-Occasionally, one activity to do with exercise, family time or other thematic
topics.
Who?
-STUDENTS are to read their book silently and independently.
If you’d like to read aloud to your child (i.e., before going to bed),
feel free to do so, but please DO NOT read aloud from their classroom book.
When?
Monday-Thursday and occasionally on Friday.
Where?
Homework is to be done at home or during non-school
hours. Homework is not to be done during class time.
Why?
1) To reinforce skills taught/practiced in class at home,
2) As a means of communication so that parents know what students are studying in school and
3) To provide a structure for learning and study
time.
*How?
Students who have the following things are more
successful with homework:
-A designated “homework area”
-An area that is quiet
-All materials at hand in your child’s “homework area” including
paper, pencils, erasers, dictionary, timer, etc.
