Discipline, Consequences and Positive Reinforcements

As a class, we came up with the following agreements (or rules) to live by:
    -Be Kind
    -Be Safe
    -Solve Problems
    -Be Flexible

    -Be Responsible
    -Be Honest/Trustworthy

    -Persevere (Don't give up! Try!)

If a student breaks one of our agreements, the consequences are as follows:
      -1st time:   “Strike 1” (a warning)
-2nd time:  “Strike 2” (another warning)
-3rd time:  “1 Out” (no recess)
      -4th time:  “Strike 1” (a warning)
-5th time:  “Strike 2” (another warning)
      -6th time:  “2 Outs” (no recess/note home)

      -7th time:   “Strike 1” (a warning)
-8th time:  “Strike 2” (another warning)
-9th time: “3 Outs” (no recess and note home, conference or phone call or email and/or no field trip)

If your child is particularly disruptive in class, he/she will be asked to leave the room to work elsewhere.

Positive Reinforcements

2 Scouts (rotates daily):  Two students “scout” out those students who are following our agreements.  The scouts then recognize those students by giving them compliments at the end of each work period and/or direct instruction lesson.

Weekly class points

Students as a class, make a goal of how many class points they’d like to achieve.  The points are based on a 0-4 rubric (see chart in the classroom).  If the classroom goal is met and everyone has done their personal best work, the class will get about 30 minutes of Friday Free Choice (Fridays @ 2:00-2:30PM).   Friday Free Choice activities range from clay, computer games, wooden blocks “Kapla,” arts and crafts, legos, chess, checkers, and outdoor activities “Smashball,” hockey, etc.
