5th Grade Math Textbooks

Investigations in Number, Data, and Space - TERC - Dale Seymour Publications:

Investigations has been carefully designed to engage students in key mathematical content as they devlop number sense, learn to visualize and describe geometric relationships, and collect and analyze real data. As they explore mathematical problems in depth, students work together, use a variety of concrete materials and appropriate technology, and express their mathematical thinking through talking, drawing, and writing. Students do not use the textbooks, rather the teacher uses the books to implement given lessons for the students.

Picturing Polygons - 2D Geometry

Building on Numbers You Know - Computation and Estimation Strategies, Multiplication, Division

Name that Portion - Fractions, Percents, and Decimals

Containers and Cubes - 3D Geometry, Volume

California Mathematics - Scott Foresman

California Mathematics by Scott Foresman provides a directed, step by step lesson structure that focusses on computational ability. By the end of grade five, students increase their facility with the four basic arithmetic operations applied to fractions, decimals, and positive and negative numbers. they know and use common measuring units to determine length and area and use formulas to determine the volume of simple geometric figures. Students know the concept of angle measurement and use a protractor and compass to solve problems. They use grids, tables, graphs, and charts to record and analyze data.
